Brief
Introduction of Further Education College of
Chongqing University |
The
higher education for adults of Chongqing University started
in 1956, and halted during the "Cultural Revolution".
In 1980, the recruitment was resumed and
in 1987 Further Education
College (referred to as the College hereafter) was set up with
the authorization of the former National Education Commission.
In May of 2000, as per the State Council's plan, the former
Chongqing University was enlarged by merging Chongqing University,
Chongqing Architecture University and Chongqing Architecture
Institute. In June of 2000, with the decision of Chongqing University,
the current college of further education was established by
pooling together the original three schools' further education
resources. From then on, the further education of Chongqing
University has been on a new track of development.
In
its more than four-decade history of development, Chongqing
University's further education has undergone five phases of
restart, consolidation, development, restructure and strengthening,
etc.; it is characterized by well-furnished facility, reasonable
management and good organization mechanism. The College provides
various further education programs, including programs both
for full-time and spare-time students (courses for night-time
college, courses through
correspondence and weekend courses, etc.), also the programs
for diploma education and non-diploma education. The scope of
specialty includes more than forty majors for 4-year and 3-year
students, such as science, arts, management, finance & economy,
etc. The students come from eleven provinces, cities and autonomous
regions, totaling more than twenty thousand students. Up till
now, more than thirty thousand 4-year and 3-year program students
graduated and another thirty thousand students acquired education
of non-diploma course programs, many of whom have become the
backbone in the companies and enterprises they work, and some
of them were granted bachelor degrees and some even start taking
course for master or doctor degrees.
The
college is equipped with experienced faculty, advanced hard-ware,
excellent academic atmosphere. The College's motto is "Pursuit
of knowledge, truth and
novelty." As per Chongqing University's overall
requirements and lay-out, guided by the principle of "coordination,
regularity, wholesomeness and high-quality", focused on
the purpose of cultivating thousands of special-purpose talents
with
high quality, the College aims at achieving the goal
of "setting up life-long education system, and molding
a learning-type society."
The
College also exerts much efforts in exploring the mode for further
education, takes as its priority the offering of high-level
and special-purpose talents for our country's economic construction.
The College consistently regards the teaching quality as its
bloodline, and it enjoys high reputation by means of strictly
controlling the quality of admission, teaching and graduation.
In
1996, in the evaluation of higher education through correspondence
and night-time colleges organized by the former National Education
Commission, the night-time college of Chongqing University before
the merger was awarded the first prize among the provincial
colleges, and the correspondence education was granted the third
prize. In 1997, the former Chongqing University and Chongqing
Architecture University were both entitled " Excellent
Further Education Programs of Sichuan Province."
The
College has won the glories of being awarded self-teaching exam
collective of national higher education, model collective of
municipal further education, etc.
The
College puts much stress on the quality-oriented education,
not only on moral education and culture education, but also
physical and aesthetical education,
labor
technical education and social practice. Many students activity
groups are set up, such as the association of literature and
art, the society of physical culture, the association of science
and volunteer service etc. A lot of healthy and colorful extra-curriculum
activities are also held in order to promote the students' development
in all-round ways and improve their health in body and mind.
All of these efforts have achieved remarkable success.
In
May of 2001, two first prizes in the Students' Computer Skill
Contest organized by Chongqing Adult Education Association;
Second prize in the speech contest of college students in Chongqing;
In December of 2001, the first prize in the theatrical festival
held by students of Chongqing higher education in honor of December
9th-Movement; First prize in the voluntary blood-donating activity
because of the good service of students' affair office; In 2001,
the chorus of the College won the third prize in the singing
contest of Chongqing University; In May of 2002, one first prize,
one second prize and one third prize in the English speech contest
organized by Chongqing Adult Higher Education Association.
With
the development of economy of knowledge, the further education
is faced with new opportunities and challenges. Under the leadership
and support of Chongqing University's Party Committee, the Further
Education College, guided by the spirit of 16th Congress of
CCP, will make big efforts to practice the principle of "Three
Representations", go on glorifying the College's tradition
of "unity, service, truthfulness, devotion and innovation"
and make further contribution to the policy of "constructing
a life-long education system, and setting up a learning-type
